Friends of the Library present The Harvey Girls,
Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the Rossville Community Library.

The presentation by Dr. Michaeline Chance-Reay, author and historian and professor at Kansas State University will explore the adventures of the pioneering young women known as the “Harvey Girls.” Fred Harvey opened a cafe to the travelers in Topeka on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway line. Single women were recruited to work in Harvey House restaurants from Kansas to California, the 1880’s to the 1950’s, more than 100,000 women proudly wore the black and white uniform. Come to hear the great history of how these restaurants and adventurous women changed the West.

The Fall Social Event is an annual Friends of the Library event to raise money to support the needs of the library.  Cocktail hour and appetizers (inspired by Harvey House menus) will be served at
6:00 pm. The Harvey Girls presentation will begin at 7:00 pm.  The event is open to the public, but adults only, please. A donation of $20.00 per person is appreciated, a portion of your donation is tax-deductible.
